In the early part of the week I will be heading back to the place I bought the Mac Pro from and look around to see if maybe they have an DP board laying around. Thing is, I've been reading that running an processor board from a 5,1 in a 4,1 Mac Pro can cause the fans to rev all the way up. So I was curious, are there any visual differences between the 4,1 and 5,1 processor boards? Are the copyright dates different? (2009 or 2010?) Anything just so I can look and know its the right one?

Thanks!

The part numbers on the boards should be different since they are technically different parts.

Because you can flash the 4,1 to a 5,1 I doubt there will be big differences. I did it and installed a Hex 3,33 without problems.

Thats good, but the number is hidden below one of the heat sinks.

It may be difficult to tell visually except the 2010 dual cpu tray has "clamps" that locks the cpus while the 2009 dual trays don't have those "clamps" Though you'll have to remove one of the heatsinks to be able to tell.

Yeah thats what I figured. Oh well, we'll see what happens. Would be nice if I could get the DP board, that would give this machine a serious boost (and its already fast!).
