Not really. I believe the sticking point will be the GPU. There is a lot of information on upgrading from 4,1 to 5,1 and to the latest OS. But without modifications an Nvidia cpu won't make the cut. Fortunately AMD GPUs that work can be obtained for a good price.

you can update to osx10.13 but after that there is no driver for the GTX 970 so for 10.14 or higher you will need to get a new GPU

RX 570/580 are good options depends on what you want
