I got a 5.1 1xCPU
I wanted to upgrade to a 2xCPU so I bought a 2xCPU tray that was supposed to be a 5.1.
When I plugged it into the system the fans turn mad (but I can reach the desktop)
I investigate a bit and, for me, the tray appears to be a 4.1 because its firmware is 1.39f5 (when system is 1.39f11)
Is there any chance I can use it into my 5.1 system ?
I tried to upgrade using http://www.yourdailymac.net/downloads/MacPro2009-2010FirmwareTool.zip
(as seen in
http://www.yourdailymac.net/2011/05...010-firmware-supports-faster-cpus-and-memory/)
and I can't only downgrade.
(Which I suppose would brick my mac as it would not reckognized the CPU)
Can I try to downgrade (the system => 1.39f5) without bricking my mac ?
Then would I be able to upgrade both smc (or at least the system) ?
