Yeah there is a leak video of Sense 5 & 4.2.2 on DNA Droid too so it's clearly gearing up to release the new update on all handsets (One, One X, One X+, Butterfly J, Droid DNA)....

Hopefully not too much longer now :)

I have been hoping for this ever since the One came out. The Galaxy S4 got 4.2 from the beginning, so I am not sure why HTC did not just release the One with 4.2.

Because they were optimising their software Sense 5 and skinning the android experience and embellishing it - they were concentrating on performance, design UI consistency throughout its stock apps and adding features over the stock android experience.

4.1.2 on HTC One is not the same as 4.1.2 stock android.

Tangible difference are small enough with the 4.2.2 update (notification toggles, lock screen widgets) on stock android. When you put Sense 5 into the mix they are further reduced as we already have some lock screen customisations already built into our 'enhanced' 4.1.2

HTC released a very optimised, very smooth (never stutters or lags unlike the S4 on 4.2.2) software and that is far more important than just rushing to 4.2.2 for bragging rights.

Likewise other factors in the software equation may have been that during development of Sense 5 stock android was just updated to 4.2 and if you remember 4.2 was riddled with bugs, so they decided to concentrate on a more stable version which was 4.1.2

Would work out nicely IMO. We'll see what VZW announces today and if it is in fact the Verizon HTC One, I'd be willing to bet we can expect 4.2.2 in about another week (or whenever VZW says they'll be made available).

How does yours feel outdated? Sense 5 gives us a couple of lockscreen options and a quick download of power toggles give you more functional and customizable toggles than 4.2.2 does anyways......

The only updates I generally care about are bug fixes and major releases (5.0). 4.2 and even maybe 4.3 aren't that huge of a deal given the amount of customization already available through the Play Store and other apps.

Im sure it will be delayed, like anything HTC these days. Bringing up the S4 lagging is pretty lame because they already pushed an update and realized that you cant release a flagship with outdated software anymore. Mine is lag free.

And your contribution to this thread other than be overly defensive about the S4 is?

Less outdated software, more poorly optimized software.

Let's face it, as successful as Samsung is they suck as optimizing software. Hence why such beastly phones need updates to address lag and 16GB really means 8GB.

Honestly, I'm excited for the GE GS4....all that power running stock Android should be quite the experience. My N4 was great but it did stutter here and there.

As soon as I'm back from Italy, the N4 (and 3 cases and wireless charger) are all up on eBay so I can hopefully grab a GE GS4 to go along with my HTC One and iP5.

Also thinking about trying to pick up a Lumia 521 to keep tabs on WP8.

Don't get me started on the screen smearing issue as well. It's things like this that makes me wonder if they actually test their phones.

Hey MRU, what case are you rocking on your One atm? Which cases have you tried?

----------

Most noticeable (for me) when scrolling in the settings. Here's a video but I'm not sure if you'll be able to see what I'm talking about. Look at the headers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOQ91ujRFxU

Ahh I saw it.....that sucks.....

I wonder how much of that is software versus hardware?

Haven't really looked into it much. I'm running CM on my S4 instead of stock ROM and I haven't noticed it yet.

It'll all depend on whether or not this vacation to Italy wipes me out financially or not ;)

And whether I can get what I expect for the Nexus 4 + accessories.

The goal is to order one on the 26th of June, and I will definitely post impressions (as I'm sure many will) :D

Ah alright. Kinda off topic but how are you managing a 6hr screen on time on your nexus btw? I am interested to hear. Maybe something I can benefit from :)

JuiceDefender helps a lot.....I've read and heard conflicting things about battery manager apps, but running stock (no rooting or ROMs), I've found JuiceDefender does increase my battery life by quite a bit.

Has to do with it managing the data connection and wifi connections in certain places and when the phone is asleep.

Now that it's not connected to any network (HTC One replaced it), its hard to gauge true battery life.....but I remember being relatively pleased after 4.2.2 came out and with JuiceDefender and got 5-6 hours on screen consistently.....

That was also on 4G (HSPA+) during the day and wifi in the evenings.

I just wish HTC used a less stupid button layout on the bottom of the phone. The menu button coming up alone on legacy apps looks bad. Even worse this time around is there is no recent apps button either.

I see, thanks for the information. This has re-kindled my interest in buying one again.
