For those interested, i've seen demo/stock available for 4 core mac pros in some non-official stores.

Looking for 6 cores though so i let it go and keep my order with apple store.

Of course there are 4 core versions available. That model is a waste of money. Please stop making threads about it as if it were news. In addition, there is an entire thread which I am too lazy to look up that lists all the places where the machines are available.

Your comment is incredibly unhelpful. If the content of this thread was so irrelevant you should have just skipped over it and carried on with your day. No need to call out OP for sharing info with the community.

And the "other thread" talks about sightings in Apple stores, and was last updated in Jan.

TLDR - don't be a jerk.

@Derpage perhaps it's best to let everyone make their decision, although i kind of share your view on 4-core model

I do not think i am hurting anyone pointing, just hoping to help fellow hongkongers if they want to have a quick delivery :)

Anyway, feel free to PM me if you're interested in locations.

There was some stock in shop named Raakee on queen's road east under hopewell center, they have other shops too but i am not sure where, you'll probably find on the internet.

Lol. Point taken on the other thread. However, there will always be 4 cores available until the end of days. It's the typical "budget" box that serves no purpose and is woefully over priced.

Yet when I call out a troll, I get suspended for 3 days

Tough luck champ. You'll get em next time. Atta Boy!

Really.. Derp. It's useless for folks whose software realistically don't use the extra cores? or who don't want to pay the extra $$ for stuff they don't need?

If you need a 4 core computer, there are many other options available that are much better value.

Hi Ogilloire. It's a good move that you are choosing the 6 core 3.5ghz. I think both the hexcore 3.5ghz or 8 core 3.0ghz are the better choices as they present a midrange balance of speed, pricing and cores task distribution. On the Quad 3.7ghz, the author commented on the 4 core 3.7ghz may be too constrained: http://macperformanceguide.com/MacPro2013-CPU-4cores-can-max-out.html

Might as well go for more cores to get more mileage and if you will use the machine for 5+ years.

Not really. They all are compromises.

iMac? How long will that thing last?
MacMini? HD4000 - no thanks.
cMP? Possible, at the right price, but longevity is an issue here as well.
Hackintosh? Sure, if you want to support it.

I've said it before, but if you took the guts of the high-end iMac and stuck them in a bigger MacMini, it would be a great solution for many of the folk here.

But without that option, the nMP 4-core, while pricey, is the best solution for someone who wants the longevity in a system.

I really don't give a damn. I call it like I see it. If I get kicked off....then I come back, as someone else.

There are compromises no matter what you buy. The 4 core version of this mac pro is pretty much a rip off. It's not junk, but it's hardly worth the price tag. I don't even bother to consider the "will it run OSX" question, because I don't care if it runs OSX or not. With each new version of OSX, I'm growing more and more to dislike it. I hardly boot into it anymore.

Paying a premium? yes. Ripoff? no.

Again, for those in the design field (non-video and non-3D), the hex would help a bit, but not much. The faster single core is more important. Nor are the D500 GPUs going to help a lot there either. Not worth the extra $1k for that group of users. Better to buy more ram and a bigger SSD than extra cores and a video card that's meant for the FCX crowd.

But if you hate the OS, why are you buying Apple hardware still, and not building your own? and why are you still here?

I still can't see the justification in paying an extra 1000 dollars perhaps even 1500 for a computer when there is no real advantage over it's competitors.

I'm here because i have a 4,1 and a 5,1. I do build my own, just built a 4 core system that destroys the 4c nMP.

I have a 3,1 and the real advantage to quote Apple's advertising is "it just works". Mine was quad to which I recently added another processor and and SSD card to and it now works better. In the meantime, I had to pay for three Wintel boxes that generally crap out because of viruses or equipment failures, and it is just not worth the aggravation of dealing with them. So in my view there is a real advantage over their competitors.

I agree that whatever you buy will be a compromise, but buying something that you know is going to work, even if you have to pay more for it, makes sense.

A PC user would say the same thing about buying a Mac in general. For my own use, I already have nice monitors, and it's worth a premium to have a computer that isn't glued or snapped together. The iMac seems more like a toy than a serious computer.

Destroys it how? List it here, lets have a look.

The 4c nMP has

HDMI 1.4
Bluetooth 4
Wireless ac
Thunderbolt 2
PCI-e SSD with 800MB/s

Unless your talking about some kind of hackintosh?

I put it all in an corsair case and added another identical 780 that I had laying around for a while, but then I gave that card to my cousin until I can get a few more 1440p monitors. I've got an extra 10TB of your average Caviar Blacks in there as well. Just stuff I had laying around. I'm only running the system at 4.8ghz as I find pushing it even further would take more fiddling than I'm willing to do. Also, I purchased everything around Xmas so the prices were a bit lower. I think i payed like 1700ish. I went with the x79 dinosaur chip set because I can get a good deal on a six core chip to replace that 4 core in a month or so. :D

Ah yeah, most mac's can't compete with a Hackintosh for raw grunt. But I think most pay the extra price for genuine apple products, reliability and continued support. 4.8 Ghz is a screamer though.

I'm just sayin, you can get a lot of computer for 2k. A LOT more than you can get for the price of a base model nMP. When you are talking Mac Pro buyers you are talking pro-sumers or tech oriented people IMHO. These same people can probably go out and build a Hacintosh or PeeCee that can blow the lid off a nMP 4c. I think a lot of people identify with that and skip the 4c model... Which gets me back to the point of the thread: There will be a lot of these available and they will hardly ever go out of stock. I'm curious as to how the higher core count i7s will effect the Prosumer / home office system in the future. It should be interesting.

It also depends on how many software developers enhance their products to take advantage of the 2 x gpu. That would rule out iMac, Mac Mini, Laptops as 4c competing options, Apple have started the ball on this one with FCP X but will be interesting to see who and what else follows. I just fear the Apple computer market is tiny compared to the PC market so will they even bother?

And I agree, What will be more important in say 3 years. CPU core count or GPU Shader Units. I guess that is down to the SDK's by AMD/NVidia and MS/Apple, if they can make it completely transparent to the developer so they don't have to faff around trying to make their products scale across GPU Shader Units or CPU Multiple Threads (notoriously tricky) and just let the OS and drivers manage it all.

isn't there a forum for people who want to get "a lot more computer for 2k?"
