Hi all,

I'm a fairly new Mac user; on my Snow Leopard installation swiping four fingers sideways reveals all open applications in a row across the centre of the screen (also accessible via the command + Tab shortcut) which I found to be a useful gesture. However in Lion, I find that swiping four fingers left or right does the same action as swiping three fingers (i.e. switching between virtual desktops and full screen apps in either direction) which is redundant.

Is there any way to get the Snow Leopard functionality for this gesture in Lion? I couldn't find anything in the Trackpad preferences.

That functionality has been around for quite some time in OS X with the gestures coming more recently. I have used Command-Tab for years to activate the app switcher. What I don't often like is that holding down Command and repeatedly hitting tab is very effective at move across the row to the desired app, while using the four finger swipe brings it up, while a two finger swipe then scrolls, but I think you actually have to click (a tap won't do) to invoke or switch to the newly selected up, added to which the two finger swipe can go too fast to be precise. You are almost better off invoking the gesture, and then manually moving the cursor to select the app which seems less fluid and less intuitive but actually works better.

I guess I would be disappointed to see Lion remove this feature.

If the gesture is either gone or modified, can you still use Command-Tab to bring up the switch. As long as the keyboard shortcut is still there, I can understand needing to allocate the gesture to a new feature.

I know Cmd + Tab still works, but unless Apple have future plans for the four finger swipe gesture I don't see the point of removing its App switcher functionality, since currently in Lion it does the same thing as the three finger swipe.

You can Four-Finger-Tap to select the app... But even like that it's annoying...
