4 year implied warranty for imac in Maine

So I bought a white iMac G5 in September of 2005. Recently, I wasn't able to boot at all from any harddrive or install disc. Since it was outside the 3 year applecare warranty I decided to open it up myself to see what the problem was. I discovered a bunch of bulging capacitors and a couple that were leaking. As you might remember, this was a problem that apple had addressed a while ago by setting up a repair program. Unfortunately this ended in 2008. Also, I checked my serial number with the range of serial numbers that apple estimated had been affected and my serial number is just outside the range. So I called applecare up and they basically said they couldn't do anything because applecare had expired, but they offered to replace the logic board for about 500 bucks. Obviously it isn't worth it. BUT, the next day I discovered something... The state of Maine (where I live) has a law that states that there is an implied 4 year warranty for basically any product regardless of the warranty sold with the product. So I plan to call Apple Customer Relations tomorrow to argue that they are legally responsible to repair my iMac. So, I just wanted to bring up the point of the free 4 year implied warranty for anybody living in Maine. It's awesome. I only read the first two pages but that is interesting and kudos to you for doing your homework and figuring this out. If it had been me I would argue the failure of the machine regardless of serial number.

Interesting. Never had to deal with state laws other than the ones I'm responsible for like the sale of AppleCare (Florida, North Carolina, etc.). Do keep us updated with what happens.

You seem to have a good case, but good luck getting them to budge. I am skeptical that Apple will listen unless there are some lawyers involved.

Great news! The apple representative decided to replace the logic board free of charge! I didn't even have to mention the 4 year implied warranty. Damn I love Apple.
