I've installed QTSS on my iBook, just to experiment with streaming over my LAN, and to friends over the net. The problem is, I've put some files in /Library/QuickTimeStreaming/Movies, but when I try to connect to rtsp://my-ip/movie.mov, I get a 404 error. Am I doing this correctly, or is there something else I need to do too? I tried looking for some instructions on Apple's site, but couldn't find much. I could find info on configuring the server, but not how to put media on there! I also couldn't find what ports I need to open on my firewall, so if anyone knows I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

You should be running OS X Server to be running Quicktime Streaming Server. I'm going to assume that you are. Quicktime Streaming Server runs on port 1220 for administration. You should have configure dit to run on port 80, which was asked to allow during first time set up. I really hope that you did that. In which case, you shouldn't need to open up any ports. you should only need to have the server turned on and if you have a router, have incoming connections allowed to your LAN IP on port 80.

I actually meant to say Darwin Streaming Server, I'm running it on regular OS X. Anyway, I didn't tell it to use port 80 because it said it might conflict with personal web sharing, but I'll change it over and see what it does. And if I can't get it going it doesn't really matter anyway cause I'm just experimenting :)

Edit: Tried that, doesn't seem to work. Who cares, I'll just use HTTP, it'll be fine on a LAN. I've got a bad habit of downloading and using stuff I don't need, Darwin SS is no exception! :)
