40gb marketed vs 33gb actual gripe!

OK, so I know this is not just a Apple thing, nor is it just a AppleTV thing, BUT......does anyone else get irritated with the hard drive marketed capacity vs the hard drive "real" capacity? I mean, 40 gig marketed vs 33 actual is quite a big difference (roughly 20%). Shouldn't there be some kind of rule to help limit this?

Just a little fed up that the difference seems so great this time.

Apple can do this, like any other company who sells harddrives. Look at the small letters in the tech specs section:

And ofcourse the software has to be on it. My 1st gen iPod nano also sells for 1GB but I can only use 895.7MB..

1 Kbytes = 1,024 bytes, NOT 1,000
and, in turn,
1 Megabyte = 1,024,000 bytes, NOT 1,000,000

You're bring ripped off more than you know.

Remember that the version of Mac OS X the -TV uses is also taking space on the harddrive.

Sort of, but its actually 1024 kilobytes which is 1'048'576 bytes

At Giga it gets worse with 1GB being 1'073'741'824 bytes. Whereas the drive manufacturers assume 1GB=1 billion bytes which is wrong.
