I did it yesterday!!
It works perfectly in a mac pro 1.1 2ghz.
It's the Sapphire edition of 4870 1ghz.

I will give details later ( I know the has been done a long time ago but a lot of links are dead and some users need to flash nowadays...) and will attache the .rom I used.

Thanx to macrumors and a lot of research on the web.

Hi. Looking for some help. I have a Mac Pro 1.1 that has ATI Radeon 5770 flashed with a Dell boot screen enforcer running Yosemite. Recently I had a kernal issue that I used this site to correct. Now I get no image. I am using HDMI. I've tried two different cables...no luck. I just did the oven bake fix and no image. I get the dong...fan on GPU and computer fan. Lights on RAM cards flash then all go out but for one on top card. After a while computer restarted on it's own then shut off all together. Other than a new graphics card are there any other options?
Thanks Ned

Hi @murnau!

I have the same GPU you have and I need to flash it for MAC. I've tried to flash the .ROM you attached, but the card still works on a PC and not on MAC.

Do I need to modify with any tool the .ROM you attached?

Thanks again for the reply!

Thanks again for the ROM, ended up sticking the card in a windows 10 machine I had on hand and used AMDwinflash to do all from the desktop. Worked first time.
