my macbook
I have a 4G U2 iPod (monochrome screen). The Hard drive failed so I went and bought a 32GB Kingston Compact Flash card and a CF -> IDE adapter.
There is some talk out there about this working for other people, but I haven't had much success yet.
The Jumper on the adapter is closed, which means it's set to "master" instead of "slave".
I plug it into my macbook via USB (I left the Firewire adapter at a hotel in the U.P. errggh..)
It pops into disk mode and flashes "Do not disconnect" a few times, and then seems to freeze in disk mode, with no sign of the iPod on iTunes, Finder, or Disk Utility.
Resetting the iPod restarts this process.
In Diagnostics mode i tried to run the Hard Drive Test to no avail.

Help.

Maybe the formatting

Not all compact flash's will work with this mod for some reason, and others have had some problems with the Kingstons.
But, did you format the CF before you did the installation? I understand you have to use particular tools to format more than a certain size (around 16GB?) so you may have a formatting problem. The format function on a PC won't format 32 GB.
