Is it possible to put only one 4gb memory card into an early 2009 iMac, leaving one memory slot empty? I'd like to go with 8 combined but will need to save some bucks to purchase the second card later. This iMac has two memory slots. Thanks!

He ain't buying a new iMac or buying RAM from Apple. He has early 2009 iMac with two memory slots.

OP: You can put 4GB + 2GB as well, that will make it 6GB

Thanks Hammer. I may go the 4+2 route as well. But knowing I can slap a 4gb card in slot one and leave slot two bare gives me more options down the road!
