Hi guys,

I have just read on Apple support pages that you CAN install upto 4gb in White 24" Imac but will only use 3gb... why would anyone do this? is there some kind of benefit to installing a pair of 2gb even though they are not fully utilized over having 1x2gb and 1x1gb

Im asking basically whether you experts would leave it as 2x2gb or return one back to the shop for a refund and install one of my old 1gb sticks?

Thx again!
J.S

Anyone? if not can someone suggest a mac forum where people do know?

Thx!

Welcome to MR.

For a smoother and more productive MR experience, I offer three hints:

First lesson today - don't "Bump" your own thread. Nag posts are not a good way to get results. And it is against the Forum rules.

Second -

can someone suggest a mac forum where people do know
don't insult the people who you want to help you.

Third - Use the Search function and look in the Guides before posting a new thread that has been asked and answered at least four times a week for the past year.

The Guides can be found under the Guides tab at the top of this window.

Under the Hardware: heading you will find the MR Guide to Understanding Intel Mac RAM

Installing 2 x 2 GB gets you a small (6% - 8%) speed improvement through using Dual Channel memory access.

Thx for the response and the help I appreciate it... as for the hints, well, my way worked. Some 70 views and no responses and the moment i 'nag'...

Thx again!

If you don't mind paying for the addtional 2GB ram, why not eventhough the white mac will support up to only 3.3GB of ram realistically.

So price of another 2GB ram gets you dual channel memory and +0.3GB of RAM in effect.

I didn't go that route though because for my use it won't make a difference. Check my sig.
