4gb ram?

Hi guys,

I have just read on Apple support pages that you CAN install upto 4gb in White 24" Imac but will only use 3gb... why would anyone do this? is there some kind of benefit to installing a pair of 2gb even though they are not fully utilized over having 1x2gb and 1x1gb

Im asking basically whether you experts would leave it as 2x2gb or return one back to the shop for a refund and install one of my old 1gb sticks?

Under the Hardware: heading you will find the MR Guide to Understanding Intel Mac RAM

Installing 2 x 2 GB gets you a small (6% - 8%) speed improvement through using Dual Channel memory access.

If you don't mind paying for the addtional 2GB ram, why not eventhough the white mac will support up to only 3.3GB of ram realistically.

So price of another 2GB ram gets you dual channel memory and +0.3GB of RAM in effect.

I didn't go that route though because for my use it won't make a difference. Check my sig.
