4K 60FPS footage

I've seen one review on YouTube of someone playing and editing 4K 60FPS footage on their iPad (from a Panasonic GH5).

I have a DJI Inspire 2 and whilst my iPad Pro (10.5") plays my 4K 30FPS footage just fine (MOV format), if I try playing the 4K 60FPS footage I just get a spinner and nothing else happens.

Anyone playing 4K 60FPS footage from an Inspire 2 (or anything else), if so is it in MOV format or something else?

What bitrate is your video. I believe the Panasonic can shoot up to 150mbps but iOS is limited to 100mbps or something similar. If you have the option to lower this bitrate to 100mbps or lower, try that and see if it works.

My Inspire 2 is shooting at 100mbps (h264) and I don't think I have the option of reducing that (and wouldn't want to), but since it looks like its lower than the panasonic it should, but doesn't, work. I might have to speak to Apple on this one.
 
Do you have a short sample of footage to test out? I also read that iOS will not handle 10bit footage, only up to 8bit so something else to check.
 
Thanks. Just checked your clip in VLC and the bitrate is showing as 101.339mb/s. I'm not sure if the iOS limit of 100mb/s is absolute but that may be the cause of the issue. I'll try some things tonight when I get home to see if I can confirm that is the only blocker.

Many thanks for trying that - your video does exactly the same on my iPad, gives the spinning wheel so I guess its not the bitrate.
 
Interesting. Can you share a quick sample of the 4K 30fps footage that does work for me to compare?

It tries to export from Dropbox and save to photos then I get a message saying this kind of file cannot be saved to the iPad. I then tried exporting and open in Lumafusion instead and that works fine. I can see the file imported in Lumafusion and it plays fine in the preview window and I can add it to a project.

Following your message I have just put some of my original 4K 60FPS footage on my iPad which of course doesn't play through photos, but as you say does load/play in LumaFusion. I can then export from Luma in 4K 60FPS at 100mbps and that plays just fine in photos!!!!

I have taken six short clips 30FPS, 48FPS and 60FPS all in 4K (3 in MOV and 3 in MP4 just in case):

The 30FPS clips both play on my iPad Pro, but neither of the 48FPS or 60FPS ones do. However, ALL play in LumaFusion.

Very strange indeed but at least I have a way of viewing and mobile editing via Luma!
 
Ok, I think the highest that iOS devices can shoot is 4k @ 30fps so this is the Photos app will support even though iOS itself can support 4k @ 60fps.
To test this out, i have re-encoded your original file @ 90mb/s again but this time dropped it to 30 fps. All other parameters are the same.
Can you try this file and see if it works in Photos for you:

Donka, I think you have hit the nail on the head here. I tried your converted video and it plays fine. I also tried playing my 48 and 60FPS videos that don’t work in Photos, in nPlayer and Documents and they both play just fine. I will raise an issue with Apple as it would be nice if Photos supported 4K 60FPS.

NP. I suspect Apple will support 4k 60fps in Photos as soon as iOS devices can capture at that quality but it doesn't seem like there is any specific reason why they can't support that today given other apps can.
