I could not find this info in the AppleTV+ app of Apple support doc. Do the Apple shows and 4K movies playback in 4K on iMac? In previous macOS they do not. Please point me to the support doc if there is one Thank you!

Not for 4K content. Everything is still 1080p for me.They do actually.
ok did a little more digging.. apple tv app is playing shows in UHD

i might be wrong.. but fingers crossed.
I'm not sure that really means anything, the HLS stream would downgrade to HD without affecting the URL if the license object isn't present.

And that’s the point of my post above. The internet in this country is still poor. And I only get one choice: Spectrum. Unless I quit my job (won’t happen) and move just for a different ISP, I’m stuck with crappy internet that struggles with streaming.apple never allowed 4k downloads earlier either. only HD .. probably sticking to same.
I bought La La Land which is supposed to 4K but it doesn’t seem to play in 4K on my 2017 iMac 5K. Downloaded the movie gives me 1080p HD. Streaming it seems to look a bit better but doesn’t look 4K to me.
on iPad Pro and iPhone shows I can play it in HDR but that’s not the same as 4K.
