4k Editing with D300?

In the few reviews we've seen, the nMPs were equipped with the D700 and delivered exquisite performance while editing 4K video. How will the D300-500 cope with that? Any ideas on where to look, what data to take in mind?

On a related note, does anyone know where I can find out the max resolution, per screen, between the D300 and D500? I am only marginally interested in video, just large image photography, so would rather not spend extra money on GPUs if not necessary (I ordered mine with D500s but rethinking whether to cancel and reorder with D300s after reading how the D500 is seriously under clocked.)

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to edit 4K R3D's with "Best Quality" selected in FCPX with the D300 then…no. If you can turn on "Best Performance" I have no doubts you'll be just fine. If you create proxies for your editing portion and then swap to the original files on render, then you can edit on pretty much anything. I can edit 4K Prores on my MacBook Air without much issue…the only downside comes with hitting the render button. You'll be able to edit 4K just fine on the nMP with D300…I have no doubt.

What people fail to mention is that most of the 4K playback is boggled down due to hard disk access in R/W times. Reason why nMP is good at editing and playback is that PCIe SSD. So to answer your question you will be fine with D300 as long as you run it of your internal disk.
