I am struggling to find a TV that can be connected hdmi-to-hdmi to ATV 4K and that is 28inch or smaller (due to space constraints). It seems they are no longer producing them for this small size. I wonder if I can connect it to a monitor (which are available as 4K and 28inch). Will this work? I checked Samsung UE590 28inch monitor but it is not clear if 4K can be rendered from ATV and if sounds work (HomePod and AirPod connected to Apple TV). I also checked the HP 27f 27-inch 4K display monitor and I have the same concerns (judging from comments) regarding rendering 4K through Apple TV 4K. Can you advise/help?

I'm not sure what you say they won't work, anything with an HDMI port should work.

on a 28" tv...
If you're more than 3 1/2 feet from the TV, the best your eyes can see is 1080.
In other words, if you are more than that distance, your eyes will physically not be able to tell a difference between 1080 and 4k.

if you can find it, HDR is almost a bigger upgrade than 4k.

also, you should read through the comments on this forum, before you choose a HomePod as your primary audio for the aTV, it's not as smooth of an experience as you would think.
if you can find a small sound bar, or a TV with an audio out jack and a set of small powered bookshelf speakers, you'll probably be better off. (if you can't fine a tv with audio out, there are HDMI audio strippers, you run the HDMI through the box before it gets to the TV, and it has an audio jack on it, you do have to check 4k or HDR compatibility though.)

Yes it does work assuming you have the right HDMI/HDCP versions. I have my Apple TV 4K plugged into my Asus VP28UPG monitor and 4K works fine. I use it with a powered set of bookshelf speakers through the monitor's audio out port(it has no built in speakers). If you're using an external device like AirPods, HomePod then so long as it works with the Apple TV it'll work fine.

4K resolution is 4K resolution regardless of 28" or 100".
What changes per panel is the amount of pixels per inch of that screen. But it is no more difficult for an AppleTV to play a video on a small screen to a 10 foot screen.
Just have an HDMI cable capable of sending the highest level of picture quality both devices can handle.
I would suggest looking for Cable Matters 8K HDMI cables. They are less than $10 for 6 feet and handle the amount of data that high frame rates, 4K, HDR, DolbyVision requires. They will be HDMI 2.0+ and HDCP compliant.

I like them. Just a suggestion.
