I’m planning on purchasing a Mac mini with an i7 with 32GB of memory. I’m coming from a max out 2012 Mac mini. I’ve been debating whether or not I should go with two 4k or two 2k monitors. I’m very big into photography and do some graphic design, so I’d like a monitor with 99% sRGB or better. I do not do any video editing or print my work. I’ve been considering the Dell U2719DC or the older U2718Q. I mainly use the second monitor for Youtube and Netflix.

I’ve read that 2k is the sweet spot for photography, but I question is it really?!

I switched to a pair of 4K dedicated photography monitor and Mac Mini set up. I’m very happy with it.
I would want a wider gamut than sRGB though.
Of course I did get my BenQ SW271’s for a bargain price!

As an iMac 5K owner, I say go with higher resolution. You’ll see more detail in your pictures without the need to zoom as often during edits. What size photos do you work with?

I'm currently shooting with a Nikon D7500. The RAW files are sized 5568x3712 around 25 MB each.

For all your photo apps, check that they do two monitors (not all do two monitors) and if they do....they can support two 4K monitors.

I went from a 22” 1080p to the 5K, and I love both the size and the resolution/accuracy. I think you’d appreciate the extra pixels for the reasons I mention, especially for the type of camera you are using. That said, be sure the mini can drive your displays. It only uses Intel graphics and has limited ports, so there may be some problems driving dual 4K, depending on how you plug them in.

Here’s what Apple says:
Support for the following combination of maximum concurrent display setups:

  • Up to three displays:
  • Two displays with 4096-by-2304 resolution at 60Hz connected via Thunderbolt 3 plus one display with 4096-by-2160 resolution at 60Hz connected via HDMI 2.0
  • or
  • Up to two displays:
  • One display with 5120-by-2880 resolution at 60Hz connected via Thunderbolt 3 plus one display with 4096-by-2160 resolution at 60Hz connected via HDMI 2.0

Fstoppers did a review on the BenQ SW2700PT. The article gives the impression 2k has lots of benefits over a 4k monitor for photo editing. This article was the reason I started second guessing 4k monitors. https://fstoppers.com/originals/review-benq-sw2700pt-perfect-monitor-photo-editing-226520

I've used Dell monitors for exclusively for around 15 years now. BenQ seems very tempting, but the Amazon reviews scare me away from their products.

I upgraded from an LG 21” to a Dell 27” 4K UltraSharp. No home, so not certain of actual model# but was relatively inexpensive. The one thing I do not like about it are the menu controls compared to the LG. Very basic when calibrating. Oversimplified and can’t break down RGB individually and set like on the LG.

I’d not worry about the reviews. We sell 100’s at work and the problems are very rare. They build quality monitors.
Your never sure what company the Amazon reviewer works for!
