Not the best argument I have ever heard, but I agree totally. For Photo editing you can't beat an IPS Wide colour gamut matte screen monitor. Eizo or NEC if you have the budget, Dell if you don't.
TV panels ≠ monitor panels . the quality difference in color plus the crappy post-processing on televisions in general, would make me say definitely 'no' to this notion.
For anything graphic intensive like photo editing you need - NEED - great color reproduction. Resolution and pixel count are over sold. The best photo editing monitors are from Eizo:
