5.0 MPX App makes mockery of app store

Anyone else tried the 5.0MPX app for increasing the resolution of your camera from 2.0 to 5.0MPX?? I'm a photographer so saw it as my duty to test this app as well as being desperate for something to improve the lousy Iphone camera.

In short the app does absolutely nothing for resolution, ok it ups your file size from 700k to 1.37mg but when both images are viewed at 400% magnification in photoshop there is NO difference in image quality, certainly nothing even approaching the images the developer uses to demonstrate this app.

A total con how did this get past the App store vetting process? What a joke.

ha ha yes of course I know that, who know's though what is capable with clever software development these days, I mean you get fantastic noise reduction software these days which looks amazing but hey your missing my point, why is Apple allowing fake images to be used in the app store? How did this get through the vetting process, it was obviously not even tested, it's blatantly crap!

Noise reduction is different from taking a 5MP picture.
 
The negative reviews should take care of it. And Apple has already demonstrated they willing to ban devs for fake reviews. Maybe fake product image crackdown is next?

Well yeah I guess so! But apple are so anal about what's allowed into the app store yet they miss such a blatant "scam" they couldn't have even tested the app before giving the green light. Once bitten.....
 
That's a novice mistake. If you want 5 MP files, why don't you up-rez later in Photoshop? Same trick. And also, you should know, making an image bigger in no way makes it "better." If it's bad, now it's big and bad.

Novice mistake Jeeez you guys know how to make a guy feel great! I'll explain again, I know you can't up a 2mg to a 5 mg but I was looking for something like less noise or smoother tones or sharpen...which IS possible to do and is what the app is advertised to do. I KNOW you can't up a 2mg to 5mg my complaint is the app does nothing at all. :eek:

That's funny. There IS software that does what this product claims to do.

So since it exists I don't know why it's "obvious" that this is a scam. Because the price is a lot lower? Yeah, maybe. But it also claims to do less than that plug-in does. So that kind of makes sense.

Point is, you're all acting like he should know it's fake when that's really not 100% obvious. It does seem very likely that it's a scam, but the existence of the Apple-vetting process makes you feel like you're safe. But really, you're not. That's the point here.

Here are two comparison frames "photo" is 5.0 and "photo1" is regular 2mg camera. Look at these then look at the "example images" on the app store page...then laugh out loud as I did!

This isn't just the App store. Major camera companies do this. Nikon's D40, which I have and love, has I think a 5.5 MP max resolution. The D40x that followed had a 10.2 (about) max res. The only difference is the massively larger amount of file storage needed. The sensor was the same, they just crammed more megapixels onto the sensor to boast a higher number—which most people think matters, which, by and large, doesn't.
 
did you actually compare the files at there max resolution of like 1900x1200 or something close to that? Thats the only way you might be able to tell the difference.

Also i think what their "algorithm" does is take 3MP and lets say slice each pixel into two pixels so it would be 6MP but obviously it only does this in a ratio that makes it 5Mp for the app, and then blur in-between a little which might add a little clarity/smoothness. They could also average the color between the pixels with more pixels and create a smoother color etc you get my point.

But no i didn't try it because i knew you can't get higher then 3MP with out a 3MP camera.
