So I get that they think they made the camera easier to access with 5.1 and the slide up. Personally I think it was easier with the double tap, but to each his own.

What I don't understand is why they are still keeping "that camera" separate from the other camera. What I mean by that is accessing the camera from the lock screen is very limited. You can't go directly into your other albums. Yes I understand that if you might have a passcode, but it could prompt you for it. You also can't send a photo you just took from the lock screen, which again might go back to the passcode. I mean they fixed the part where if I don't have a passcode, then at least now I can see the rest of my camera roll after snapping a photo from the lock screen. Glad they fixed that from 5.0, but why wouldn't I be able to send a photo???

Also, why do we have the nice added ability to see only our photos or only our videos from the lock screen camera, but not from the photos app inside. Does that make any sense to anyone???

I never urgently need to view my photos. I urgently want to take new ones.

And if I use a passcode I don't want the "quick" camera shortcut prompting me for it.

Security and privacy ... you don't want anyone to just walk up and see all your photos and videos, do you?

Security and privacy. If Apple allowed others to see the whole Camera Roll, people would complan about no privacy.

I understand all this. And I'm not saying enter your passcode before you take a photo. But give us the option to click a button to access our camera roll or unlock our phone and prompt us for the passcode. VERY easy to implement!

Home button > Enter passcode > Photos

The whole interface is about simplicity and ease-of-use, adding button here and there to do these extra tasks will just clutter it ... which is the antithesis of Apple.

I'm sorry, but if I quickly take a photo and then try and e-mail that and a photo I took 20 minutes ago and it won't work...that is not simplicity. Having to ask "why can I e-mail one photo but not 2? Oh, right, because I took them 20 minutes apart." That's actually pretty complicated.

I agree with the OP. In that situation it should ask me for my password when I try to access the other photo and then just let me email the 2 photos.

Search for FullLockCamera in Cydia.

I stopped looking for "fixes" from Apple a long time ago. Apple likes to come up with a completely different method to deal with issues. "People are complaining about this one little issue... let's rethink and reprogram the entire component and make it a highlight of our next release!"

The lock-screen camera is a convenience for catching a "photo moment" on the fly. If you are taking photos under normal circumstances, you open the camera app from the home screen. All your options are there.

You don't want just anyone having access to your entire phone via the camera roll. The other posters are right - security trumps convenience.

I remember when I first got my iPhone 4 and we were discussing the Retina screen verses the 3G iPhone others had. They were passing it around looking at a landscape picture I had taken when my boss thought he would scroll through my camera roll! Just as well I'm a decent sort of bloke otherwise he may have had a bit of a shock!

THIS I agree with wholeheartedly. I love that when you open camera roll, you can filter by photos or videos. Why it's not implemented when opening the Photos app, I have no clue.

Exactly. 99% of the time, a photo moment is exactly that, a moment. A short amount of time, that if delayed, it could be missed. I have no problem waiting to send a photo later, but it was annoying when it was a long process just to access the camera on the iPhone way back before iOS 4. Tweeting/Emailing a picture can wait a few seconds, the moment you are trying to capture, usually, can't.

I'm kind of hoping Apple will give us an option to not have the camera permanently on the lock screen and be able to hide it, just like we had previously on ios 5.0.1. I'd love to have this option once again.

It could be if you create albums and have one for videos and others for different groups of photos. Easy to set up.

We're not talking about security here though. At least I wasn't in my OP. As I stated, I agree with not wanting people to see your camera roll. But why not give the user the option of accessing the email functionality or the rest of the camera roll by entering the passcode? Someone else stated Apple likes to keep things simple?? Well this would be more simple than 4 additional steps to access the photos (home, photos, album, find the photo).

Because, according to Apple, you are not supposed to have full functionality from the lock screen - if you want full functionality, go to the Photos app.

Obviously I'm not "supposed" to have it because they didn't give me that functionality. I'm talking about an improvement here. How is this different from entering your passcode from the normal lock screen? Technically speaking, when in the camera from the lock screen, you are still on the lock screen. Like a house with two external locked doors. Go in either one, use your key, and you're in.

Everyone who thinks I'm saying you should have full access to the phone without entering the passcode is missing my point here completely.

You're missing my point completely ... I'm not saying Apple's right, or you're wrong, I'm saying that you're not likely to see the improvement you want because the lock screen camera is not the full camera app - and is not even a gateway to the full app. If you want the full app, you have to launch it.

I agree with this, especially if one hasn't set a password once they swipe up on the camera they should have full access to the camera app.

and then if you accidently unlock your phone while its in your pocket and send a random photo to someone random in your contacts, youd be blaming them even more.

my boss who is the IT king don quan says this about requests such as yours..

there are nice to haves and there are must haves..

what you are asking for is a nice to have, which means it isnt necessary and that its just convenient for you.

a must have is what they already have, a feature which is quicker to access to the camera, because its active from the moment you swipe, rather than having to load, and the necessity to email the photo is not as important as to take the photo itself, photos can be lost within a second, emails are not susceptible to this, you can email when you like and how you like, this function takes 10 seconds to do, i just tested it myself, if your complaining about 10 seconds of your life to email a photo then you should look in the mirror and consider seeing a shrink.

2 PENCE thrown in..

Alas the troll is slowly creeping from yonder

I agree about the swipe function should enable the full camera experience , security issues could be easy resolve the same way you can restric siri on lockscreen.

Btw it really should be an option to disable the lockscreen camera... ?
