Hi

I just added a MVC 1080 Ti to a 2012 cMP running two non flashed 1080 Ti. They are all powered by a dark power pro 850w.

After adding the card, and upon turning the PSU on, the GPU fan goes bonkers until the Mac is switched on. Everything works, I just thought it odd. Why would this be?

A little annoying as I used to leave the psu on all the time (I know that’s not clever).

...just noticed putting the Mac to sleep also results in the fan going nuts. Nice

I'm only speculating, but if you're powering your GPUs with an external source, chances are the graphics cards themselves won't know how to manage the fans until the cards are controlled by the system. As powerful as GPUs are these days, they still need to be controlled by the motherboard, BIOS/EFI, and operating system.

Hey Darmok. Thanks for taking a stab. The other two 1080's don't exhibit this issue, it is only the new flashed one. I have tried different arrangements (different slots, card on its own etc) and found no difference.
