I'm having an issue with my 5,1... it won't stay asleep. It's running Catalina via the Dosdude patcher with an RX580 installed, although I have the problem with three different GPUs so that isn't the issue. It will sometimes stay asleep all night, and sometimes it will wake up and go to the login screen after just a few hours. It will then stay running and heat up the office like crazy, although the monitor won't stay on. I know it's happened because the light will be on solid and the room will be 80 degrees! It does go to sleep normally when I'm logged in- I can hear it click off after about 60 seconds.

Anybody have any tips for resolving this? It's really annoying!

Thanks,
Luke

what are your sleep settings? Wake on network activity?
Nope, I disabled that to try to fix this...

If it's waking up there should be something in the log. Have you added any changes to your LAN? For example, an Apple TV, Airport router, or Time Capsule will have a Bonjour Sleep Proxy service running.

There's an older wall plug style AirPort express on the network but I didn't think of of that stuff should affect it with Wake for network access disabled.

Hmm...Are you sure it's actually going to sleep? Your screenshot shows sleep is set for 3 hours, maybe something is keeping it from going to sleep in the first place.

Try opening the Console app and searching the system log for "Wake reason"

That is correct. This computer will not sleep before 3hrs of inactivity. So there is no way it will sleep in 60 secs unless it is forced to sleep.

Yes it is going to sleep. 3 hours was set in hopes that it would go back to sleep if it wakes up during the night. But it didn’t help.

Hmm...well, I would say sleep issues are not uncommon with macs of this vintage. Especially when running extra hardware. You might have some luck searching the forums. I haven't tried Catalina on the cMP yet. I'm pretty happy with Mojave.
