Hi Everyone! God this community has helped me troubleshoot so much through the years!

I'm on a 5.1 / gigabyte 560 (bought durning the crypto craze and all I could find)/ 850 EVO / 40GB ram

I'm stuck in a update loop when trying to move from Sierra to High Sierra so I can install Mojave on my 5.1. I'm getting the "To install HS, a firmware update is required. Shut down and hold the power button until you hear a long tone." I've shut down and held the power until the long tone and chime. Of course there's no boot screen so I'm in the dark for 2-3 mins and then it boots up fine. But I get the same message when I retry the HS installer. I've done this process about 6/7 times and I'm still getting the same firmware message. Am I going through several firmware updates and I just need to keep trying, or am I stuck in a loop and starting over and not getting anywhere?

Any ideas? I seam to have thrown out the original 5770 (brilliant) and have an old 460 and a Sapphire 570 in a eGPU I'm using with a 2019 13" MBP.

Thanks in advance!

Your 560 should work to upgrade the firmware/BootROM for the Mojave install, but unfortunately it's not going to work for your High Sierra install.

Read the entire first post of this thread, but especially note the section "If you have a earlier than MP51.0089.B00 BootROM version" (step 3 explains what graphics cards you can use) :

Read post #1, especially about the 0089.B00 section
