My 2012 5,1 is forgetting display settings when I reboot.
I'm using 2 Dell monitors and lately, when I reboot, the display settings are not remembered.
I have to go in to Sys Prefs and redo the settings.

This is an 8 year old machine.
Might it be the battery?
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I have a 2010mp with 2 dell monitors.
No issues in Mojave.

If it was the battery, other settings would also be lost.

What gpu are you using.

Just an update...

I replaced the battery and it fixed the problem.
Not sure why, but it worked.
Pretty easy to replace.

Now when I reboot, the displays are in the right arrangement and the color and scale settings are correct.
After 10 reboots, I'm thinking the problem is...

SOLVED!

The battery is just for the RTC and RTC related settings, like power on time and time since boot - but when these things are stuck like when you have a battery that is not totally dead but do not have enough power to keep the normal functioning of the RTC and the RTC is just keeping the data without updating it, macOS do really crazy things.

Thanks for the info.
Old battery was 2.8 volts with no load when I removed it.
New one tested at 3.2 before installation.
Maybe just taking out the PCI cards and blowing out the dust fixed the problem?
In any event, I'm happy that it is fixed.
Thanks!
