Quick question. I got 5,1 3.33 ghz 6 core.

I wanted to play this new released mac game called, "Obduction." As I was looking at the specific requirement, it stated mac needed metal support. It looks like 6,1 is metal supported only from apple site. Could 5,1 be metal supported as well?

The stock 5770 in the 5.1 is not compatible with Metal. You have to upgrade your card for a "Metal-friendly" one. I planned to buy a 7950 myself for my 1.1/2.1 up until a few days ago - but I just got a 5,1 this week (yay!!! :D), so that changed my plans and I'll look for more options to get Metal support on this Mac - I suppose a 7950 is not the only option for a 5,1 - while it is for the 1,1/2,1.

We just bought a 6,1 at work (yeah yeah, I know......... ;)) and to be honest, I don't see much of a difference, eventhough its D500s obviously support Metal. As you said though, if it's a requirement for you then that's another story...

It certainly isn't. We got the "small" 6-core with D500s... I know it's "outdated" and all, nobody should buy this blahblahblah, but we did and to be honest, it's a great machine so far. It's perfect for our needs. I don't regret the purchase at all, we'll see how Apple Mac Pro plans turn out... Meanwhile, I'll have great fun with the little beast... :) Actually we didn't have much of a choice, my boss didn't want a second hand, iMac and MBP were out of the question, so..... I know I did comment a couple times about the lack of updates, and I'm very happy about last week's annoucements, but this 6,1 will do just fine for now (just like my 5,1 - I'll probably keep that one for a long time!)

........BUT...time to get back on topic now ;)

It is, with the proper GPU. Go to System Information, Graphics/Displays. The last entry will tell you whether Metal is supported or not. It is on my 5,1 with a GTX 780 (soon to be a GTX 1080).
