when i do the 5-finger pinching gesture, it sometimes shows multitasking screen and other times home screen.
is there a way to change the setting so it always shows home screen?

It's really twitchy and I'm still getting used to it, but for me what seems to work is "fast pinch" goes to home screen, but "slow pinch" goes to the multitasking screen.

So if you want to go to home screen, do the gesture fast. Want multitasking? Go slower.

I kinda wish they'd had separate gestures for them though. I was pretty used to 5-finger pinch to home screen.

First off I have a gen 2 but I have no reason to believe things are currently any different on the new ones when it comes to these gestures at this time.

That said as far as I know there is no setting to change them so all we can do for now is learn to be more purposeful in how we initiate the two gestures.

What I do is pinch quickly and pull my hand away from the screen as i'm doing it to get to home screen. For multitasking I pinch just a little bit and then pause before pulling away. Takes just a little bit of practice but I'm consistent with it now.

BTW the gesture's the same for both 4 and 5 finger AFAIK. Sure would be nice if they set it to distinguish between 4 and 5 wouldn't it?

What I’ve been doing to get some consistency is to swipe down with five fingers and hold for sec for multitask, swipe four/five fingers up quickly to return to home screen, and swipe right four/five fingers to go to the previously used app.

It works just like the swipe up gesture. If you swipe up part way, you get the app switcher; if you swipe up further, you get the home screen. Likewise, if you 5/4-finger gesture partially, you get the app switcher; if you 4/5-finger gesture fully, you get the home screen. I don’t think speed matters (except for the fact that precision is more difficult).

Thanks for the input everyone.

Hmm that's weird because I've never had this issue on my old 2nd gen ipad pro. I dont get why 5-finger down gesture also triggers multitask screen. I think this might be messing it up.

On my 11”, 4 fingers is multi-tasking, 5 is minimize to the dock. And if you’re in safari, 3 will show all open windows.
