We have 5 Iphones on our. Most of them are on 2nd or 3rd generation, one of 4th. Then I see I can get an Amazon Fire for $30- no contract. Why is this a bad idea compared to $700-$900 for Iphone plus service contract, etc?

Is it really that bad?

Okay, it is actually $130, but you get one year of Amazon Prime, or extension, meaning it is still $30. Damn cheap

Help me understand it.

There is no Amazon Fire phone left anymore, so you don't have a dilemma. I got one. Will make a good running phone :)

I saw the offer yesterday and ordered one. It "says" it is about to ship. I figure for $30, I have a backup phone.. assuming I don't like it.

It now shows out of stock on the Amazon website.

Great device if you want to flash it and put stock on Android on it, otherwise it's okay but just the same as buying a Blackberry or Windows Phone app-wise.
