I ordered a new Macbook air (yay). I got a custom build -- more RAM and bigger HD. It shipped today from China, but I'm seeing Fedex delivery estimate for Aug 25th. Apple's estimate was July 26th-Aug 2nd. So this is way off. But if shipping is nearly 6 weeks, then the July 26th date was never possible. I'm in New York City, so it's not like I'm in a hard-to-reach place.

Are other people seeing 5+ weeks shipping? Is the Fedex estimate reliable?

I'm not talking about the custom build -- that's done -- Fedex reports they have the package now. So the estimates are just super slow shipping.

My BTO is currently stuck with UPS in China also - it was bound for delivery today (3 days shipping time). UPS now stating a "mechanical issue" is to blame. No new date on delivery since 3 days ago.

I pre-ordered within the first few minutes and the shipping estimate is tomorrow and has been sitting in China since it "shipped" Sunday night. As of the last hour, it arrived in Incheon, South Korea...hopefully at UPS's air hub there.

When I contact Apple earlier today, they said they had live-tracking and said it would still be delivered tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath.

Shipping to store as of this morning 7/21. Ordered a custom midnight Air. Original estimate was Aug 9. Still says 2 - 3 weeks for delivery.

I order a custom
MacBook Air with M2 chip - Midnight
With the following configuration:
Apple M2 chip with 8‑core CPU, 10‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine
16GB unified memory
1TB SSD storage
13.6-inch Liquid Retina display with True Tone
1080p FaceTime HD camera
MagSafe 3 charging port
Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports
67W USB-C Power Adapter
Backlit Magic Keyboard with Touch ID - US English
Accessory Kit

They just charged my credit card. but still says processing. ship date original Aug 2 - Aug 9th,
then changed to Aug 1 - Aug 8

My card was charged for my BTO Midnight/10/1TB yesterday, shipping notice came in today with an August 1 delivery date (originally Aug 2-8), and now Apple says July 28. The package is at customs in Shanghai in the hands of FedEx. In my experience it will spend a couple days there and then quickly move to Memphis.

Had the usual "billing problem" bug with AppleCare+, though- I have an agreement number but without the serial number of the machine, it won't process.

Update: Now showing July 27 AM delivery. Moving a bit quicker than expected.

Same here for me - obviously not going to happen :-(

I got that same weird timing and it will go away within a day.

They used that same excuse when the iPad Pros came out..

I ordered within 1 minute and got the Aug 1-8 delivery time. If they deviate, I will just cancel and keep my M1 Air. The only thing I hate more than looking for something is waiting for something. I am done with the preorder ponzi scheme.

Returned midnight blue that I had pre ordered when orders went live last Sunday at apple store. Ordered a space gray 8/512/67w and I got a 1-2 week wait. Shipped yesterday from China. Delivery for this upcoming Tuesday. This order had first week of August delivery.

Apple has always been very conservative with delivery estimates. By going with the worst possible case, they can usually delight their customers by having their orders arrive "early".

The recent delay notices that went out for the Mac Studios, and perhaps some other systems, pushing back delivery dates from their original estimate were extremely unusual for Apple and were likely attributable to COVID-related supply chain issues.

I ordered within minutes of going live.

10 core, 16/1TB showed Aug 1-3 first two days then it has sat at 16-24 Aug the last few weeks.

If it weren’t taking so long I wouldn’t be doubting my decision.
