Im definitely getting the wifi only model. The data plans are absolutely insane on this thing. And thats not even that much data! The sad thing is that this is just where it starts. I fear for the future of data plans...i really do.

If you are in the US, using Netflix, Hulu+, IM etc, ABC player, ESPN, 5GB goes real quick!.
I'm £15 a month for 10GB in the UK. Very fast connection too.

Really? If you compare the iPad's data plans to the carriers' regular data plans, they're a better value.
Verizon's iPad data plans:
$20 = 1 GB
$35 = 3 GB
$50 = 5 GB
$80 = 10GB
... compared to their normal "no contract" data plans:
$50 = 1 GB
$80 = 5 GB
AT&T's iPad data plans:
$15 = 250 MB
$25 = 2 GB
AT&T doesn't appear to offer "no contract" data plans (except for iPad):
(below are their normal data-only plans, 2-year contract required)
$35 = 200 MB
$60 = 5GB
Yes. Very happy with it after the initial pain of setting up the connection via their foreign call centre.
The issue is that at the original $29.95/unlimited a lot of people were looking at it as their primary Internet access so they didn't have a WiFi alternative.
Here in Canada, Bell and Rogers offer 5 GB for $35 for the iPad.
Whats nice is that they have an option where you can share your iPhone data with your iPad.
Bell charges $10 for this option, and Rogers $20 (bastards).
So for instance, if you have the 6 GB/$30 data plan for your iPhone, for an additional $10 (assuming Bell), you can have 6 GB/$40 to share between your iPhone and iPad.
I mean, the best part of all is the fact the iPad data is month to month and requires no contract, so you can turn it off in months you won't need it. Perhaps this is why in some countries its more expensive.

1. You do know you don't get to download it to watch later right? streaming only...
2. Obviously, if a person had wifi everywhere they went, they wouldn't have bought the 3G version in the first place (morer than likely anyway). And, since wifi is faster and better quality video, they would use it first.
But hey, the reality is, sometimes you need to watch those over 3G and they can suck the data quick.
As to the OP, i don't think the market will bear more than we are seeing price wise "right now", but tiered data plans are here to stay (again) so get used to it. You use it, you will pay for it. Period.
And this is why I went wifi with the iPad. Very easy decision. If I want to access things and I'm not near a hotspot, I can always use my iPhone.

25 dollars is with clear and it is running based on Sprint's wi-max network. 25 dollars with no contract. I got iSpot device for 29 dollars as well.
these 3G plans are just not meant to be the sole form of internet access , its meant if you are somewhere where you dont have access to a hotspot or to your home wifi , so 5 gb should be enough on a business trip or on a holiday weekend to check some emails and google for the nearest restaurant or other things of interest , as thats what the iPad was meant for, the intention was never that the iPad is replacing your iMac and broadband at home
