iPod 512 GB vs. 1 TB mSATA for battery life in iPod Video 5G mod

Hello, everyone. I'm planning on putting a 1TB mSATA Samsung 840 EVO into my 5.5 iPod video. I haven't jumped the gun on actually purchasing the mSATA, and so I've been reading a few forum posts about whether to go with 512 or 1TB.

Is it true that the 512 GB (Samsung 850 EVO) would be drastically more power efficient than the 840 1TB? If so, how much of a difference is there?

The 850 EVO is a little more efficient but not much. The drives mainly eat a lot of power when syncing a lot of data which is why it's recommended to use the dual FireWire/USB lead.

eBay is probably you're best bet. A lot of demand for these leads.

About $100 more expensive but way more reliable would be to run a dual 512GB SDXC card set up.

Gotcha, I think I'll go that route. Was able to luckily find a 512 for $220. Will probably buy the other SDXC later on, but it's nice to purchase that 512 another time whenever I have the money

That's what I did. Got my PNY for $200 and will get the 2nd once I get near the 490GB mark of music.

Out of curiousity - does iPod 5.5 support a HDD that big?
