I've got my iMac yesterday. It's a 2017 iMac 5K model, and 512GB SSD CTO.
But in the system info, storage type is displayed as a '500GB Flash Storage', and its capacity is 470.XXGB/499.xxGB.
I understand the capacity can be shown under, but why the storage type is shown as a 500GB?
And isn't this a SSD? Why is it displayed as a Flash Storage? Does anyone know why?

Flash Storage is what Apple calls the SSD. As for the difference between 512GB and 500GB, Apple has this note on their site: "1GB = 1 billion bytes and 1TB = 1 trillion bytes; actual formatted capacity less."

Did you order from Apple, or another reseller?

download blackmagic and post what the speeds are. If they depart substantially from what is known about the apple SSDs, something's amiss...

Thank you for the reply.
I understand the capacity can be shown under, as I said above.
However, Apple sells the option as a 512GB SSD, but its storage TYPE is displayed as a 500GB Flash Storage.
I think these two should be the same.
Again, I understand the capacity, but why the type is different from each other?
Flash Storage means SSD in the Mac, it's OK. But if that is, the type should be 512GB Flash Storage.

OP:

You've got what you've got.
You're not "missing out" on anything.
EVERYONE who ordered a "512gb" iMac got the same...

unscrupulous resellers have been known to sell imacs with SATA SSDs instead of the PCIe blades. But if you ordered it direct from apple, you should be ok.

Also note that since Snow Leopard, the OS has been in base 10, not the conventional base 2. Which is why it's reported as exactly 500G.
