I have the 256gb cellular iPad but can’t see me using the cellular much. Travel a few times a year and usually tether to my iPhone. Bought the cellular “just in case”…..

As for storage, I have always gone with 256gb and find this has been fine (my iPhone 15 Pro Max is a 512 and currently have used about 150gb)

Question is, would you go with the 256gb cellular or the 512 WiFi only?

Both are the same price but would you prefer the extra storage or the cellular capability?

If you don't travel with your iPad much, you'd be better off getting the 512 GB WiFi model; the extra storage would be a better feature than a cellular connection that sees little use (and you can always tether to your iPhone if you do travel).

I would get wifi as I have 220gb usage and don't like iCloud on my 128gb for vids /photos, when I do go away I just use hotspot, cheapest plan here is $25AUD a month so ads up.
Before CarPlay and bigger iPhones I used to get cellular for maps.

Get cellular for sure

Better to have and not need it

Than to need it when you don't have it

256 is enough for anybody currently using under 100 GBs

I added cellular to my M4 to have it on both iPads.

Already came in handy when we lost power for a few days. When nearby cell tower finally lost its backup power, the iPad had enough reach to grab a signal from my front yard vs having to drive about a mile for the iPhone (Mini) to get one.

If you have an Iphone, the hotspot connection is very easy. I bought the mobile version once and then never used it.
