iOS 512x512 Icon

It is used to show in the App Store and for the list of applications a user downloaded in their iTunes "Applications" tab. It'd be a good idea to keep your 512x512 looking good.
The 512x512 icon is used (on a slightly smaller scale) for the AppStore images and whatnot. It would not be a good idea to simply upsize your 57x57 unless you want your software to look cheap on the AppStore. Your icon should be designed to be used at both 512x512 and 57x57. Designing in vector helps greatly.

Ok, that's what I figured. The AppStore features some applications and those images look more like advertisements. I wasn't sure if that is what it was intended for. I can see the icons in the "Applications" section of iTunes is definitely bigger than 57x57, so they must just use the 512x512 and scale down for that (an other) purposes.

Developers of featured applications are asked to provide additional images that are used in the boxes and other places you see on the AppStore. Its all detailed in the App Store Video, and I'm sure in a document somewhere.
