MP 1,1-5,1 5770 in mac pro 3,1

Hey all,

I recently got ahold of an hd 5770 to upgrade the crappy 2600 xt in my system. I just want to know if it'll work. I can go without a bootscreen, I don't have a problem with that. My problem is will it work without having to do anything? Will it be plug and play?

the Apple HD5770 works perfectly for every Mac Pro from 1,1 to 5,1 as it is EFI 32/64

anyway, as the 3,1 is efi64 every Apple 4,1 or 5,1 GPU will work in a 3,1 with bootscreen.

I figured as much, but will a non-apple version work? I believe the one I bought is a Dell.

the Dell versions are too long to fit in, you need to cut the handle.

no bootscreen as well.

I'm fully prepared for the no bootscreen, as for the handle I'll have to figure something out.

get an Apple HD5770, they are bloody cheap now.

re apply the thermal paste after 10 plus years, it's easy as there are just 4 screws to loose and the fan plug to pull.

no bootscreen is to handle, but bootscreen helps a lot if it comes to havoc ;-)
