On a tight budget.. is the 5870 still worth considering for MP 3,1 ?

I can order one £38 from this place but it's probably not going to be the original brand pictured :

Other cards I'm looking at are. .. GTX 570, 6950, 6870, 750Ti... I'm running Yosemite...

Also can anyone please confirm this is the right cable I need ?

I have a cable from my dead 8800GT presumably it's the same thing..

Bump... Anyone ??

Apologies for asking.. I expect Mr MacVideoCards would sneer at his monitor at the audacity of a person not searching and finding the infromation for oneself.. :p But Gawd knows.. I've tried.. many hours I've sunk into this, it's so confusing..

I find the naming conventions of graphic cards adds to the problem.. !

I asked at an :apple: store what replacement they could source.. the guy reeled off a quaddro whatever as the only option .. for £2200.. like it was nothing.. !!

Well, it depends on what you want to do with your Mac...
The 5870 is a lot faster than than the 8800GT and it can be flashed for boot screens. HD 6870 can be flashed, too, and is equally fast. HD 69xx has crappy OS X drivers.
Newer cards (HD 7xxx+) will need a system modification, otherwise they'll have very bad performance because of a power management bug in OS X, so I wouldn't recommend them.

On the Nvidia side, you could get pretty much anything. I wouldn't recommend a Maxwell card in a MP3,1 though, it won't be able to unleash the full power in most use cases. I wouldn't go higher than a GTX 680.

Thank you so much for responding..

So frustrating trying to get through the minefield.. I feel armed now with some better knowledge.. although I've kinda of gone contrary to some advice in getting a 750ti but such a good deal and so tired of the 2600 I couldn't resist..

Will post on the appropriate thread...THX
