5870 in 2006 Mac Pro - works, right?

The 5870 Upgrade Kit works on the first gen Mac Pro, right?

There are lots of threads from the past where it works, just wanna double check that nothing has changed.

As long as you are on 10.6.4 or higher, I believe so, yes.

Everyone seems to use the 5770. I'd check a few of the threads. If I recall correctly it was either not fully compatible or offered very little in additional performance over the 5770 on the mac pro 1,1.

I think its really about the PCI 1.1 vs 2.0 on the newer gen MP's. I believe that the PCI 1.1 will make the 5870 not perform to its fullest potential and it would be better to get the 5770. Half the price and still a great card.

Little performance gains. Gaming is still big though. Or big enough.
