Hi!

I have fixed my cousins iPhone 5C: he had two, one was broken on the outside, one was broken on the inside. Obviously, 1+1=1, so i transfered the good guts into the good case. Result: one perfectly working phone.

Fast forward to one week later: he dropped the phone
Result: the speaker does not work anymore. What you need to know:
- After the speaker probably broke (caused by the drop), i changed it with a new speaker.
- Still no sound, so i opened up the phone again, to clean every contact on the lightning cable and speaker contact points with a 70% cleaning alcohol.
- Everything works (including headphones!!) but the loudspeaker still won't make a sound.

I am kinda lost. What can I do? You guys think it might be a software issue or a hardware issue? If so, it's probably not the speaker, but what is it then?

Hey there. It is possible that the new speaker you replaced is faulty.

As AxITJ suggests, it could be a faulty replacement part but speakers are not known for quality issues. You could try the speaker from the other device, it's probably still good. However, if that doesn't work, then the next step is the Lightning Port. The flex may have been damaged from the drop. I would also inspect the Lightning connector on the flex and on the logic board as the pins may have been damaged.

Finally, if none of that works, then you most likely have a logic board issue. The 5C is a horrible board to work on as most of it is encased in epoxy but I can't remember if the audio IC is like this or not. It's probably not worth fixing on an iPhone 5C anyway.

Thanks guys, I tried most of this. And must agree: the 5C is hardly worth the fuss. Buying a refurbished 5c (or a newer model) might be the way to go.
