Curious to see your opinions on how realistic 5G on the 2019 iPhone is? Didn't Apple wait quite a while to implement 4G into their devices?

Reason I am asking is I am rocking an iPhone 6S, 16Gb, and am very tempted to move to the iPhone 10S Max 256Gb as I am completely out of storage and have a new baby girl I want to take plenty of pictures of (without having to constantly grab the Sony compact camera).

Due to this also being a work phone, I am not eligible for upgrades for at least 2+ years (usually 3-4).

5G really is going to change the phone market, but do we think it will be here next year?

5g will be coming soon in the fall to many cities. By next year I’d say this would be a big deal. Why wouldn’t you want faster speed?

No, maybe a ballpark in texas but it will be a long rollout.
I would expect 1gig LTE before 5g and even this is a stretch with congestion

5G isn't realistically reaching the U.S. until 2020.

Intel won't have a 5G chipset until next year. Apple typically waits one year before implementing the latest modems.

I doubt it will be next year. Apple usually isn’t the first to implement a new tech, preferring to give it time to mature and market saturation to increase before they introduce it. And given that the Xs/Max have gigabit LTE support, I’m not as anxious to get 5G as I was when I was waiting to go from 3G to LTE. I realize 5G is more than just speed but I can wait until Apple integrates those chipsets into their phones, even if it takes extra time compared to Android.

You could always upgrade your cloud storage to hold more pics.

If 5g isn’t implemented next year I will be in a bind. That’s what I’m waiting for, as dumb as it may be. The next phone I buy, I want it to last 3 years. My 8 plus should be good another 2 years, but I’m getting new phone fever.

Not until at least 2020. The tech will still be it’s infancy next year. Apple waits at least a year until they know they can implement it until they know it can be flawless with no compromises. See the history with delays in implementing 3G, 4G and LTE when other phones had them for a while.

The bigger question is for those getting the Xs or Max, what could compel us to upgrade from those phones until 5G is implemented? Other than being able to hide the notch behind the screen I suppose.

Great question, Supermallet - that's what I've been contemplating as I try to decide whether to keep my 6s+ for another year or just go for the Max this year.

Seeing how Apple is specifically hiding the notch this year, on all of its phones via wallpaper, I'm expecting the notch to disappear for next year's phones. I'd rather not have the notch, myself.
