My 14 month old 5s was fine all day Tuesday. I always turn my phone off at night and power it on in the morning, but when I took it out of my pocket (after watching TV all evening) to turn it off Tuesday night - it was already off. I hit the power button and the screen showed the empty battery with a skinny red bar at the end and immediately shut off - which was weird because a few hours earlier it had about 70% charge.
I put it on the charger overnight - woke up yesterday and it was 100% charged but instead of saying at&t in the upper left, it said "searching" - forever.
So I tried; removing/replacing the SIM, reset network settings, killed all apps and hard boot the phone - still said "searching" - plus the battery was running down super fast throughout the day even though I put the phone in airplane mode after all that troubleshooting (note: it will connect to wifi no problem).
Took it to AT&T last night - they tried all the same things plus giving me a new SIM card. Still stuck on "searching". They said take it to Apple - it's a hardware issue. I've taken immaculate care of this phone - as I do with all my Apple stuff, so it hasn't been dropped or sprayed with water or anything like that.
I have a Genius appt. tonight. Seeing as the phone is 14 months old now (out of warranty) but this is not an uncommon issue based on internet searching - is there any hope Apple will take pity on me and give me a free replacement? Anything I can do/say during my apt to help bolster my case? This will be my first Genius appt ever - so any advice is appreciated.
