iPod 5th Gen 80 Gb wont connect to certain sources

My 80 gig has recently stopped working with some of the connectors i have. It wont connect in my car, and it wont play songs through a dock connector output. However, it connects to my mbp just fine, and connects to some other output sources. It seems as though like one pin on the connector might be obstructed or something. Anyways just looking for some ideas on how to fix this mildly frustrating situation.

check for lint in the connection area, I had this problem and cleaning it out helped tons.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but this iPod will charge with both the 12v firewire and the 5Vusb. It sounds like one of the charging systems is not working, probably the 12v. (The only reason I know this is I had 1/2 of my chargers not work on my new iPhone 3g because it won't take a 12v charge.)

This theory could be wrong because I would think your dock connector output would use 5v.....
