iPod 5th gen battery issues

I have a 5th gen iPod video that has served well for years, in spite of some abuse. The battery life was terrible, so about a year ago, I bought a new battery from OWC and installed it. Things seemed to be better for a while, but now the battery life may be worse than before. A couple of days ago, it couldn't even make it through a 40 minute video podcast when the battery was showing fully charged.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with the OWC batteries? I would think they would still be good after 1 year. Is it the battery, or could something else be causing the problem? I did just buy a 160GB Classic from a co-worker (Overkill for me, but he gave me a great deal), so I do have backup. I just want to find out what's wrong with this one. From my research, the 5/5.5 gen seems to be the last gen that was really hackable and has the best sound quality, so I would like to keep it around.

that doesn't sound right at all. I'd contact OWC and tell them that your year-old battery isn't performing up to par.

The only reason I was thinking something other than the battery is that the hard drive occasionally grinds while playing. I also thought it was the cable connecting the battery, as it seemed a bit loose after I changed the battery, but I checked and it was ok.

Has anyone modded their 5th gen? While searching for possible hard drive replacements, I found a compact flash hdd replacement mod that looked interesting. I found some mentions of the mod in mroogle, but nothing recent.

I found a site which sold some sort of adapter for flash memory in the 5G.

Didn't bookmark it after I decided just to stick with the traditional hard drive though (money/space ratio being the main consideration) This site was selling these adapters around December last year though. It was the simplest way to mod I found. Cheap too if memory serves. Well, the adapter, not the memory
