I'm thinking about purchasing an iPad 12.9 5th gen but want to future proof my device as I plan to keep it for the next 4-5 years. Just want to know if the 1/2 TB option with the 16gb ram is still limited by Apple. Or would I be fine with just the 8gb of ram on the 512gb option. Any thoughts and experiences are appreciated.

Are you asking about the RAM demands being limited per app? The limit per app on a Pro 16GB right now is 12GB RAM, which is not unreasonable.

Apple now allows apps to request more RAM, but really I think that 8GB is fine unless you don't want browser tabs ever reloading while you are using a lot of other high-RAM apps. If you are fine with the occasional reloading pick your storage amount and enjoy which ever RAM that comes with.

Thanks for the replies everyone. This is the answer I was looking for. I read that the RAM was limited to like 5GB even on the 16GB models. Did you happen to remember where you found this info? I can't find anything on google that says this.

Here you go. I searched MR for "iOS RAM".

PS. I use Wipr ad blocker to reduce the amount of resources that Safari needs; really helps my old 9.7" iPP.
