iPod 5th gen iPod 30gb freezing up

This doesn't happen very much, but every once in a while my iPod freezes up and doesn't respond until the battery is dead. What's the matter with it?

Did you get the version that came out recently? I plugged in my 30 gig video ipod a week ago and it said there was a version update to fix bugs. I don't remember any bugs but I haven't used it in a while.

How full is your ipod's hdd? If it is full, you may try trimming it down to leave a few gigs head room.

5th gen ipod video/mp3 DOESN'T RESPOND

I have tried every troubleshooting idea out there. Its been updated and restored. Pushing 'hold' over lights the screen up.. but that's it! Same with plugging it in.. I have held down 'menu + select button' and every other combination of buttons for well over 10 seconds each...
Of course, my warranty is expired...

any help PLEASE?
