iPod 5th Generation iPod Photos Problem

Hello, I have a friend who has an old 5th generation iPod, 80gb (I think). He has pictures on it, about 150 of them and we can't find a way to get them to the computer. Using the cable and Macbook's own "Capture" program shows absolutely nothing and when hooked to iTunes, the device registers and is visible however, there is no "Photos" tab or area. The Bar at the bottom that shows memory percentage w/ breakdown of what part is videos, pic, music, etc shows that a small portion is pictures and lists about 150. However, there is no way to get the pictures. Any suggestions?
