Hi guys,

So I received my iPad Pro 11” M1 yesterday and I set it down to charge today and it got really warm throughout it’s charge. I never had that issue on my iPhone.

So can I use my 5W iPhone charger on my iPad? Is it safe? I know it will take ages to charge so I’ll just charge it overnight.

Cheers guys.

Yeah I’m used my devices being a little warm fora period. But this was really warm from start to finish.

Maybe this is normal for 20W? I’ve only used 5W and 12W.

Me personally? 5w gets way too uncomfortably hot (the charging brick), even with my 12 Pro Max - and way too slow. Charges really slow with the 12w.

A little bit of warmth isn't going to hurt the battery. Burning hot to the touch? Yeah that's not good for battery. But some heat is ok.

I usually use my anker batteries that do 18w to charge my iPad - using a USB A to USB C cable (so I don't think anywhere near 18w) so it's really slow. But some times I just use my MBP charger and that's really nice.

I manually try to keep my iPad between 40-80%. But sometimes I'll forget and it'll hit 100%.

Okay. Thanks for the input guys. I appreciate it! Looks like I’m worried for nothing. So I’m gonna use a mix of the 5W and 20W, depending on the situation!

cheers!

You can use a 5W charger on an ipad which will charge it very slowly, however if your iPad is completely dead, the 5W charger will not initiate charging at all, so bare this in mind.

I always thought that it just takes 10-20 minutes with a totally flat battery for those devices to turn on - same experience with the USB ports on my Macs and dead phone batteries. Just give it time.
