I remember when Chinese phones became good looking and got competitive specs for a low price a few years back, some people totally thought that would drive Apple's prices down. The opposite is true, apparently. They didn't make much of an impact, expect for in China of course which is actually a big deal to western phone companies.

I don't understand why more of these overseas oems don't venture out west. With these $1k+ flagships it seems there is a lot of money to be made.

This article is four years old, but I don't see why it's not still true: https://www.techinasia.com/chinese-smartphone-makers-eager-sell-phones-west

- Western countries like western products
- Carriers
- Patents

Much easier to sell in China only, there are lots of customers there anyway.

Now, they have captured world's 2nd largest cell phone market in India, why bother with western countries.

Good that Huawei dropped the ugly notch but all they need is proper WIFI calling support for US carriers. For both VoLTE and WIFI calling you usually have to go Samsung, Moto or even OnePlus, Nokia, etc.

Too bad Huawei has been branded as 'spy' phone manufacturer by Uncle Sam.
