This may have been confirmed since I did this upgrade back in January (I couldn't find the info when I initially researched the upgrade). But here is a video confirming:
  • The Radeon 5770 does work in a Mac Pro 1,1
  • Dual Radeon 5770s can be installed in a Mac Pro 1,1
  • You can run three DVI displays on a single Radeon 5770
  • Dual-Link Active Adapters are not needed for three displays

Sorry, if my english is bad... i try to find a answer, and in france no one have. I hope you'll can.
I have a Macpro 2006, 1,1.
I change graphic card (1900XT) for ATI radeon 5770.
I have 2 display, but just one works. Just on DVI.
I bought the minidisplay port (displayport to DVI), but no signal... The cable works, i test it whith macbook pro on display. It's ok !
I don't understand, everyone who makes this switch works whith many display.
Have you an idea ?

Did you buy a 5770 from Apple or from a PC manufacturer to flash? What resolution is the monitor? Are you using a dual-link DVI cable to connect?
 
yes, buy on apple store.

Monitor.
1st monitor : 1900x1200 IILAYAMA E2607
2nd monitor : 1680 x 1050 .Samsung syncMaster 206bw
(i put the MDP on two display but nothing change... no signal)

I'm using minidisplayPort to DVI adapter, from apple.
 
What you need is a single link ACTIVE DP to DVI adapter, the one from Apple will not work the way you are trying to use it, it will work on a Mac Book Pro however.

I think it's a good answer.
I try to find a another cable, but i'll make more research because i'm sure to really understand.
for example, if i read apple FAQ, i found this :

C'est bizarre j'ai une 5770 avec un écran en DVI et un autre avec ceci :

Et ça marche ! Peut-être qu'il y a un problème avec ta carte ? Es-tu sûr de l'avoir bien installée ? Peut-être que tu devrais essayer de la sortir, et de la remettre bien dans le slot ?

déjà fait.. j'ai même réinstaller la XT1900, puis les 2 ensembles.
Si ça marche chez toi c'est surement du au fait que ton macpro est plus récent, le mien est de 2006.
Peut être un problème de firmware... je ne sais pas.
Mais pour le coup, je suis triste, j'ai perdu l'habitude de travailler avec un seul écran.

the acell cable works.

Comment avez-vous résolu le problème ?
Je viens d'installer une 5770 Apple dans un Macpro 1.1 et je suis dans la même situation que vous au départ.
