6 monitors working over 2 x 5770 mac pro but crossfire causes bluescreen

Hi,

I have a mac pro late 2010.

it has 2 x 5770 with 6 monitors attached. I have put the two crossfire bridges on the gfx cards but in windows when i click crossfire mode in catalyst it just blue screens. I can get infinity running over 3 displays but not all 6 and thats what i want.

It wont let you do that unless the two cards are in crossfire.

Any ideas ?

I thought the whole point of using Crossfire is to use the rendering power of both cards applied to the output of one card, for increased performance. If you need the outputs on both cards, you aren't really using Crossfire anyway, you need the rendering power of each card independently for its own output.

Eyefinity should just work over the 6 monitors, adding Crossfire to the mix doesn't make any sense to me.

I've read about Eyefinity+Crossfire combinations, but they are using Eyefinity from the outputs on one card.

Im a total rookie with this gaming / eyefinity stuff. But i figured i would use it being i have it.

I thought the same as you but then it wont let me create a single eyefinity screen over the two graphics cards. Only one or the other. Even to get it working on three monitors i have to have them all on the same card.

So this kinda pointed me down the route of using crossfire to be able to acheieve eyefinity over all 6 monitors.

Im lost :/

Are you sure you can run Eyefinity off of 2 cards ? My google search tells me no :
"No, you can only run Eyefinity configurations off of a single card, they cannot be run off of two separate cards, the maximum number of displays you can configure in a group is the monitor connections on a single card. "

To do what you want to do, I think you'll have to get an Eyefinity 6 card for Windows, then you can run Eyefinity on your 6 monitors from one card.

However, that card won't work for OS X, so you'll also need Apple-compatible cards for OS X.

Slot 1 - Eyefinity 6 (Windows, all 6 monitors)
Slot 2 - GT120 (OS X, monitors 1 and 2)
Slot 3 - GT120 (OS X, monitors 3 and 4)
Slot 4 - GT120 (OS X, monitors 5 and 6)

Whether or not this will work... I have no idea. You would be breaking new ground I think, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Also, when switching between OS X and Windows, you'd have to switch inputs on all six monitors too.

Thanks for your replies guys. Seems i can not do it in an acceptable way. Maybe one day apple will support a card with more outputs :/

I use an Apple Mac Pro 3,1 (2008) with the following specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
2x Intel Xeon E5472 3.0 GHz
32 GB DDR2 FB-DIMM
2x Apple Version of the ATI Radeon HD5770 1 GB DDR5

I would like to enable Crossfire in Catalyst Control Panel, but it do not work on drivers newer than Catalyst 10.11 with Catalyst 10.11 and before Crossfire is Fully Functional and Working, but these drivers are preety old.

All newer drivers starting from 10.12 to the latest 11.11c causing a BSOD.

I got BSOD on atimkdag.sys, How to fix it ? even installing fresh system didn't worked. A new Crossfire Bridge dosen't help to.

No Help or Response from AMD the Phone support dosent Help very well and the Email Support to. I dont can blame Apple thats defently AMD's fault.

Crossfire is a bag of hurt and I am astonished at the number of people that recommend it.

My recommendation is to sell both 5770s. That cash will net you a 5870 or 6870, which will be as fast as a 2x crossfire 5770 without having to do crossfire. You'll have one more slot free, greater reliability, and good speed in both Windows AND OS X.
