I was wondering, with the price of MobileMe much cheaper at places like Amazon if I could sign up for the 60 day trial but before it auto-renews use the key from a box set, or if the only way to keep it going is to let it renew from Apple at 99.00?

You can renew either by paying $99 directly or by entering a code from a purchased box. I always buy a box to renew as you can usually get them cheaper than $99.

So the credit card I gave 'em won't get charged? Looks like Amazon has it for $65 and I can certainly think of better things to do with the extra $34 :)

If you enter the code from the box prior to your renewal date then it will use that rather than charge your card.

sure

Sure, this works always, just makes sure it doesn't auto renew to a CC.

I think so

I have always been using MM, but don't pay the 99$ fee. I still think it would be worth the 99$, but only if one really uses much of the functionality.

As a mac user, I really like the simple as heck integration with iphoto and idisk. I can just put photos onto the site, it is a nice look and they get sync'd up to .me and others can view, subscribe, download, etc. Even full resolution products. This is worth at LEAST 30-40$ a year. Not including the mac syncronization. If one didn't use that feature, it would be worth less. Not worthless.

I LIKE the calendar syncing, and that all my contacts are backed up in to the cloud, although it would be just as easy to sync locally.

More features are being added yearly, and I think it will be even better. Things like being able to upload videos from the 3gs, easily and even privately are great additional features.

If one ONLY used email, or maybe email and calendar, then I would say NO, it isn't worth the 99$, since would one could easily replicate this with gmail or other services like yahoo.

I tried out the mobileme and I like it but it's just not worth it to me.

It has nice features but it's too basic to justify price.

The crippled features like web hosting was deal breaker for me.
